CRITICISM ABOUT IVAN RUSEV
“Ivan Rusev is a young, competent and talented artist. Unlike most of his contemporaries, he doesn't want to be fashionable and doesn't care if it's interesting. He does not use artistic tricks to fit in with a new conceptual trend. He strives to be a true artist who honestly and respectfully expresses himself through the talent given to him. Therefore, he is not afraid to create in the post-impressionist style, and in some works to achieve certain expressive inventions. He is not ashamed of everyday life accused of being a fan of retro style, life as a late impressionist. He is only interested in creating valuable works, which makes him worthy."
Dimitar Indjov - gallery owner, collector and expert appraiser of works of art
“With his paintings, Ivan Rusev takes us back in time, around the 30s of the last century, to one of the most curious, most interesting and purest stages of Bulgarian art, in the time of Nikolai Tanev, when we felt the beauty of French impressionism in Bulgaria. Ivan Rusev is one of those artists who are rare in our time, because time suggests a more serious look at things, more philosophy, more drama, more serious messages, while Ivan, as artists of the late nineteenth, early twentieth century, enjoys everyday life. Therefore, he makes us empathize with this everyday life, that is, he takes us back to those beautiful moments that are constantly happening around us, to these beautiful landscapes that are constantly around us, but we seem to no longer have feelings to notice them, or we have too serious excuses to notice ... Ivan is the type of artist who brings us back to the beauty of the world. At the moment, and in order to see life as a series of beautiful moments that leave and do not return, artists like him seek to capture them in order to make them available to us - the audience. His paintings have an incredible freshness that attracts, because light always brings optimism, and there is a lot of light here. A very important quality is the transfer of pleasure from everyday moments. Finding beauty, feeling the spirit of repetitive activities such as walking on the beach, reading books, playing a musical instrument is Ivan Rusev's trademark."
Krasimir Linkov - art critic and director of the City Art Gallery - Plovdiv
“Ivan Rusev has completed over thirty participations, some of which are held in different European countries. These exhibitions are not only a recognition of his talent, but also an opportunity to satisfy his other passion - to travel and collect impressions from museums, people around the world. Ivan Rusev's paintings have a clear impressionistic beginning, each of his works breathes the air of reality, freedom, vitality and positivism and is characterized by a bold turn to different genres - still lifes, landscapes, nude bodies, urban motives. He adores such great talents as Van Gogh and Vladimir Dimitrov - the Master, in his work Ivan Rusev never achieves an intuitive imitation or external dependence on these great artists, he always develops in his own direction, inspired by their path into art."
Irina Kolbasova - art critic and curator at the Vidima gallery, Sevlievo, Bulgaria
“If I have a favorite young author, this is Ivan Rusev. I live with him, and someone will ask themselves how and why. Because my house is almost full of his paintings. I watch them every day, and when I see them, I remember Ivan. He grew up as an artist before my eyes, and at today's "100 Exhibition" I see that he has become even better. I wish him to be alive and well, because I am convinced that he will be a factor in the Bulgarian fine arts."
Rusi Kurtlakov - gallery owner, collector and artist
“Meeting Ivan Rusev's painting is a short rest, rest from a hectic, confused, dynamic day and recharging the senses with a sunny feeling. Rich color palette, impressive play of light, immediacy of drawing are the characteristics of the artist Rusev. These are truly wonderful moments, alternating memories of a bright summer, warm sea, fields and sky, bright autumn, human figures and faces - all this is palpably organic and sincere. The flashing light is the main character of Ivan Rusev's color impressions. It unites works into one whole and infects with warm and bright energy on cold winter days."
