Meeting in the forest and the rebellious spirit of René Portocarrero. Although he had mastered the craft over the years, René Portocarrero was a Cuban Artist considered to be self-taught. He began painting from an early age and at the age of fourtheen, entering later the San Alejandro Academy of Fine Arts. Having a strong temperament and unable to adapt to this apprenticeship, he left the institution and started working on his own. His work brought him great international recognition, and regardless of his lack of a college degree, he is considered one of the greatest modern Cuban painters.
