Peter Mitchev

 

Peter Mitchev - Pedro is a self-made and self-taught artist. He started to paint at the age of 15. Born on May 9, 1955 in Bulgaria, in the town of Pleven, between the years 1974 and 1990 he developed his artistic career mainly in Bulgaria. The world discovered him in 1990 at the Brussels Gallery “Sharp Corner”, where his paintings were exposed beside those of Salvador Dali. Peter Mitchev had large exhibitions in France, Belgium, Germany, Switzerland, Luxembourg, Denmark and the United States.

In 1994, the artist participated in one of the greatest cultural projects of UNESCO for the 20th century, along with the famous Cesar, Jean Carzou and Bernard Buffet in Paris. In 1997, the three of them are organised a joint exhibition at “La Monnaie de Paris” *. The exhibition was opened by Jacques Chirac.

During his artistic career, Peter Mitchev participates in more than 400 group vernissages and has more than 120 solo exhibitions in Bulgaria, Europe and America.

From 1991 to 1998 he lives and works in France. There, Peter Mitchev works with prestigious galleries, one of which is the famous Gallery "Romanet", situated between the Louvre and the Latin Quarter, which created Picasso as a young artist. Paris critics define Peter Mitchev as "authentic, mystical and impossible to define".

In the period between 2000 - 2005 Peter Mitchev lives in the United States, in Tampa, Florida.

At the Florida Congress, the brother of the US President, Governor Jeb Bush, presented Peter Mitchev as the only citizen of the state enrolled for a place at the Encyclopedia Britannica. After five years of living in Tampa, the eight million populated city, nominated the Bulgarian artist as the “Person of the Year”. The name of the artist is written forever in the Palm Beach golden book.

Peter Mitchev’s canvases are possessed by more than thirty museums, galleries, foundations and private collectors, some of them celebrities in the world of business, politics or show business, including George Bush, Vladimir Putin, Simeon Saxe-Coburg-Gotha, the famous American cinema actor Steven Segal, the Australian billionaire Clive Palmer and the Russian multi-millionaire Gennady Gaydamak.

Some of his works are in the collection of the Vatican Museum, but in addition to that, a painting of Peter Mitchev put in his private collection the Pope John Paul II.

Peter Mitchev's work "The Madonna of Florida", is possessed by the Florida Senate Museum and was chosen as a postage stamp as a symbol of Florida. 

 * Paris Mint is a government-owned institution responsible for producing France's euro coins. Founded in 864 AD, it is the world's oldest continuously-running minting institution operating from two sites, one in Paris and one in Pessac. Many ancient coins are housed in the collections maintained there. The institution is hosting some very prominent exhibition of Contemporary Art.
