Maurice Merleau-Ponty wrote that “The artist is the one who fixes and makes accessible to the most human of men the spectacle they are part of without seeing it”. I chose to title my works “Window on Time” precisely to tell the path that I glimpsed in the folds of colors that are encountered in everyday life.
The study on figurants, on the human being, more or less protagonist of the contemporary world, makes me reflect on the importance of time. When the figures flow quickly in front of us, as in a crazy film, in the end we only see color and this is what I wanted to represent. The whirlwind of time that absorbs the extras (us, the men and women of our time) and transforms them into colors.
In turn, the colors are captured and brought back onto the canvas and become real again, revealing countries and places or perhaps even people who are visible only to the eyes of the beholder. With this new gaze I have rethought places, situations, people and I have reduced, or tried to reduce, the sensation to pure color. This is why I also made a drastic choice on materials: to document the essence I chose aluminum plates, perfect shiny and reflective, like a mirror that could only reflect the essence of vision. And also the glazes, bright, soft and decisive, gave me a perfect tool to act.
I want to think that these works can speak directly to the soul of the viewer. Truly bringing to the surface the memory that is already nestled in the mind and heart.
