Oriella Montin

Oriella Montin was born in Rovigo, Italy in 1978, she lives and works in Milan since 1999. By following a conceptual address her research is poised between photographic and pictorial language. Attracted by the symbolic value of common objects, she works on the alienating, enigmatic and surreal effect of performance. To all this we also have to add the strength of a language partially autobiographic, aimed to deeply probe the essence of the human condition.

Oriella Montin says “I use recovered photograph, photographs found in the markets, to speak not only of memory but of suggestions and concepts very deep and inner. The pictures represent the family and the couple. With needle and thread, I sewed words or signs directly on the images. These signs contribute to a conceptual reading of the pictures. They show the unconscious and inner side of a memory. Words like home, forever, dad, together, wedding, reconcile, hand sewn, they are the grammar that joins the images to build new meanings. So, the photos reveal the unspoken, the elusive mystery of the fragility of the human condition”.
