The month of May 2021 marked an intense opening of the art scene in Vienna, with several physical art fairs, some of them completely new. One of them was the “PARALLEL VIENNA Editions”, that took place in the Semperdepot, where Stefan Bidner, initiator, and director of Parallel, created his own fair for art editions with the Parallel subsidiary, offering the opportunity to buy prints and multiples at very accessible prices, starting from 100 euros. The other art fair, Art at the Park 2021, offered mostly originals.

From the 28 to 30 of May 2021, the luxurious and beautiful Hotel Park Hyatt Vienna, which is housed in a former old bank building played host to an art fair. Eighteen renowned exhibitors from all over Austria exhibited more than 500 artworks from the 19th, 20th, and 21st centuries in the beautiful halls of the Park Hyatt Vienna. Although the fair welcomed galleries from Austria only, the Art at the Park art fair marked the beginning of a promising art summer for the Austrian, as well as for the international community in Vienna.

The team of ArtWizard was there to follow the developments and connect with the artists, collectors, and galleries. As the fair was held at the beginning of the opening process in Vienna after the pandemic and the fair was physically frequented mostly by the local community, the need for an online presentation and larger broadcasting of the works exhibited seemed pressing.

The use of digital technologies has been exhausted via scanning of a QR code to provide information about the exhibited artworks, related to price, the story behind the artwork, the technique and year. Information about the artists and the exhibiting galleries and the artworks exhibited at the fair were not present in any online viewing rooms and could be seen only physically at the fair.

According to the latest art trade reports for the year 2020 (such as the Basel report and the Hiscox report for example), the analysis of the effects of events like the pandemic proved once again the need to use digital technologies as a supplement to the physical experience related to art, in order to be able to reach a much larger audience.

Such a large broadcast and online presentation that would have been a perfect way to show the beautiful old Viennese halls exhibiting Austrian art from the last few centuries was not particularly in place at the Art at the Park Art Fair. The Hotel Park Hyatt hosted a somewhat physical local fair, both in terms of exhibitors and visitors, as opposed to much larger art events that the art community is used to witness in Vienna. Still, the event showcased some of the best galleries in Austria and marks a promising start for the new art season.
