Marko Tadić

Marko Tadić is seen as an established mid-career contemporary artist, who originates from Croatia, like other prominent artists such as Dubravka Vidović, Darija Jelincic, Hana Miletić, Izvor Pende, and Damir Očko. Marko Tadic was born in 1979.

Marko Tadic's creative work was predominantly inspired by the 1980s. The 1980s were a turbulent time culturally, and were marked by growing global capitalism, global mass media, significant discrepancies in wealth, alongside a distinctive sense of music and fashion, epitomised by electronic pop music and hip hop. Artists growing up during this time were heavily influenced by this cultural atmosphere. The 1980s were a key decade in terms of politics, marked by the African Famine and the end of the Cold War, which was signified by the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989. Neo Geo and The Pictures Generation became leading art movements during the decade, alongside Neo-Expressionism which became well-known in Germany, France and Italy (where it was known as Transavanguardia). Artists such as Anselm Kiefer, Jörg Immendorf, Enzo Cucchi, Francesco Clemente and Julian Schnabel were leading artists of the era, alongside Jean-Michel Basquiat, Keith Haring and Kenny Scharf, who established the street art and graffiti movements.

Marko Tadić studied painting at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Florence. His artistic practice includes drawing, installation and animation. He has received numerous artistic awards (2015 Vladimir Nazor Award for Best Exhibition, 2012 Award for Best Design at the Croatian Animation Festival FHAF, 2010 Third Prize at T-HT at MSU in Zagreb and 2008 Radoslav Putar Award for Best Young Contemporary Artist. He has participated in many residency programs in Helsinki, New York, Los Angeles, Frankfurt Am Main and Vienna. He is currently working at the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb. His movies have been shown at many international animation film festivals and experimental film festivals. His work has been exhibited at many solo and group exhibitions around the world. In 2017 he represented Croatia with Tina Gverović at the 57th Venice Biennale.
